A massive winter storm is effecting nearly the entire eastern half of the nation tonight. Blizzard conditions are occurring across all of Iowa, southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as northwest Illinois.
This storm has given forecasters a real challenge. Earlier in the week the storm looked as though it might travel from St. Louis to Cincinnati. Had that happened, we would be seeing heavy snow. As it turns out, the storm took a more northerly track lowering potential snowfall forecasts from 6-10 inches down to 1-2 inches. I think this storm has a few more surprises in store for us though. Tomorrow afternoon will be the time that the storm really gets active for our area and I think we'll have more snow than predicted. Even if we only get a couple of inches of snow, the strong winds and cold temperatures will be fun to watch.
