Hottest Day in 23 Years

Hottest Day Since August 1988

The average temperature for July 20 was a stifling 88 degrees. This was the hottest day at Indianapolis since August 16, 1988. August 16, 1988 was also the last time the Indianapolis area reached 100 degrees until today. The high temperature that day was 102 degrees. The temperature at Indianapolis reached 100 degrees as of 3:07 pm this afternoon, and the temperature could still increase by a degree or two. The record high for today however is 106, which looks unattainable.

In addition, the average low temperature for the 19th and 20th was only 78.5 degrees. The last time 2 consecutive morning low temperatures averaged warmer was back in the Dust Bowl summer of 1936.

Locally, the temperature hit 95 with a heat index of 121!
