Summer Heat Sucks

Hottest 8 Day Heat Wave in 70 Years

The Indianapolis area experienced the hottest 8 day Heat Wave since July 1941. The average temperature for the period from the 17th through the 24th was 86.6 degrees. The high temperature for this period averaged 95.9 degrees...the highest since July 1988. The low temperature averaged a stifling 77.2 degrees...the highest since the Dust Bowl summer of 1936.

During this period, Indianapolis reached 100 degrees for the first time since August 1988. The temperature remained above 74 degrees for slightly more than 8 days for only the 4th time since weather records began in 1871. This last time this occurred was in July 1940. The string of 8 consecutive days of 90 degrees or higher is the longest since the 14 day string during the summer of 2007. Click here for additional hot weather statistics for the Indianapolis area.

A slight break in the humidity and possibly the 90 degree weather will occur on the 25th and 26th. The heat and humidity will return on the 27th. Above normal temperatures will continue into August.
